Overhead Hatch in the Pilothouse

The NP pilothouse may better be called the hothouse during those long summer months. In our ongoing effort to get more airflow through IBIS (NP-43), we've installed a forward opening hatch in the pilothouse overhead, right over the helm seat. We've seen other NP's with overhead hatches; a newer one from the factory and Gerry Travers' Amazing (NP-42).

For our instillation we picked a low-profile, smoked-acrylic Bowmar (19” sq.) hatch, which fit perfectly into the overhead within the forward headliner. A 3” trim ring with screen tucked nicely into our overhead for a custom fit. The hatch and trim ring came to some $500, and professional instillation took about 4 hours.

With our new overhead hatch in the wheelhouse and our new retracting screen on the saloon door, we're looking forward to a cool summer aboard IBIS.

Overhead hatch

I sure would like to find someone in Oak Harbor that could install one in my pilothouse. Any suggestions?

Overhead Hatch

As I mentioned, the hatch cost about $500 US and instillation took 4 hours. My total cost was less than $1,000. If you do the work yourself you can get it in for under $500.

Any way to get a pic to me Bill. Curious to see how the interior detailing was done (ie trim and headliner)
You could email me

How much

What was the total $?
Can't decide whether to put hatch there or solar panel.
