North Pacific 28' Trailer Trawler Design

Trevor,

A great concept, we have been looking at NPs for several years, and have met you and your boats at the Seattle shows. Kids, deployments and other events have prevented us from upgrading to one but I think we are getting close. This may very well be the model.

The design for #1 has been set. I like the lines of image 1, but would say go with the most seaworthy.

Best wishes to you on this new launch.

I have a strong preference

I have a strong preference for design #1. Please consider duplicating the interior design of the Ranger 29 in the forward accommodation area. Their angled double berth configuration is excellent.

I don't think we will be at

I don't think we will be at the Chicago boat show but we will be at several shows later this year and next year. The first NP28 is scheduled to arrive in August and will be at the Seattle Boat Show in September.

This looks like a great

This looks like a great boat! More room than a Ranger 25 but still trailerable without a permit. As a landlocked Hoosier I'd love to have one of these to take up to Lake Michigan and also to Kentucky Lake/Lake Barkley- maybe even take a river cruise. I wonder if it would be practical to stay on this boat overnight on land during a trip to a far off destination.

Thanks for the nice comment

Thanks for the nice comment Gary. The different designs were just for looks. Both would have been equally seaworthy so we went with design one because most people prefer it.

Hull #1 will be arrriving late August and will be at the Seattle Boats Afloat show. I hope to see you there.

Good choice on the Cummins and larger fuel capacity.

Good luck with your 28'

Good luck with your 28' trailerable trawler! I think your timing is right on. I too would prefer design # 1 and a double or queen bed forward and some ammenities for those of us that like to wet a line now and then. Possibly, Flush mounted Rod holders, Live baitwell, Rod Storage etc.
Best Regards!
P.S. Hope to see it at the Chicago Boat Show Next year.

Re Good luck with your 28'

We will offer some custom options. Changing the bed configuration will be one. Adding rod holders and other finshing equipment would be easy during commissioning in the US.

Re Great Tug

I'm sorry I missed this comment earlier. We think it is a great idea to use the NP28 not only as a boat but as a camper in between waterways.

My understanding is that

My understanding is that Canadian residents will have to pay both US and Canadian import duties. Why if the boat is built through a Canadian company can it not be imported directly into Canada from China rather then first into the US? Sales will be lost already due to the Canadian dollar falling so greatly against the US dollar making the boat more expensive then last summer but adding the second duty will make it too expensive for many.

NP28

I like the #1 design better than #2.Having said that I would like to
know is there any way that you could design the forward stateroom
to have one double bed.Instead of two single beds.My wife and I look
forward to hearing from you.Thanks.

Canadian Duty

Dear Ret and other Canadians:

Unfortunately Canada has a 5% duty on any yachts that are made in China while the US duty is only 1.5%. This duty applies to any company importing them regardless of the company's base. Because most our buyers are US we include the 1.5% US duty in our price which leaves Canadians with an additional 3.5% duty to pay.

I know this will hurt sales to Canadians with the already low dollar, but we can't absorb this cost.

NPY28T - Progress Photos

Your photo gallery to show the progress of the NPY28T is a great idea. You have no idea of the interest and anticipation that this particular boat is generating. I have personally brought this new boat to the attention of all my boating enthusiasts and it has been received with a great deal of positive comments.

I hope that you keep posting photographs of its progess as often as you can. Many, many of us anxiously anticipate its arrival and display at the Seattle Boat Show in September. Can you advise if it will be displayed at the static Q-West (football stadium) arena or will it be at the boats afloat section in Lake Union?

Thanks!

Thank You!

I am happy to see that you and many others are following along. We are very excited about the 28 project as well. We expect to be posting more pictures next week.

We will be at the floating section of the Seattle boat show in January with the NP39 and 43. If you can, it would be good for you to come see them because you will get a good feel for what the finishing will be like on the 28. They are all built at the same factory.

At the show in September we will have the 28 in Lake Union. We hope to have the first 28 read to show in July.

Ranger Tug R25 and R29

As someone looking around for small trawler the North Pacific 28 looks nice and seems well priced against revivals such as the Ranger Tug boats. It looks like you can get boat comparable to the Ranger Tug R29 for the price of a Range Tug R25. That should make it a swift seller especially in the economic mess North America is in now.

When can I get one out here in Ontario?

Thank You

Hello Everyone:

Thank you for your input. We really appreciate all your advice and the encouragement. I am going to China on Thursday to finalize all aspecs of the NP28 design. We realize there are some discrepancies between the ads and the website and we will revise the website when I get back in December. A couple changes I know that we will make for sure are that the fuel will be 100 GAL and the engine will be a Cummins QSD130 instead of the Yanmar. Please follow our website or contact me anytime at tbrice@northpacificyachts.com if you have any questions.

Thank You.

Feedback on NP28T

Your timing could not be more perfect for a trawler in this segment of the market. Anyway, # 1 would be my favorite, but can you make sure that it includesa pulpit for the anchor as the # 2 drawing shows? For whatever it is worth, I just got my "Sea" magazine for December 2008 and I see your 28T in the Buyer's Guide. However, it is featured with a projected 100 gallon fuel tank capacity whereas your online PDF brochure shows quite a bit less than that. What's up with that?

Anyway, build it, and I'll come. I'm retiring next year and have my "play money" tucked away to purchase a pocket-size, yet comfortable trawler and it seems that the 28T would be perfect.

My preference for the

My preference for the trailer trawler would be sketch #1.

Trailerable NP28

My preference is sketch #1. The lines just flow better looking at the profile. Both designs will have competition from other boat builders in 2009. Nordic Tug is re-introducing their 26 in '09 with similar lines to sketch #1 and Ranger Tug currently has a 25 that looks a lot like sketch #2. I believe either one will out-sell the competition not only because of price, but also the incredible list of standard equipment. Your timing is perfect Trevor!

Trailerable 28

I like the looks of #1 for a small boat. On a larger boat I think #2 may look better. Have you looked at trying to incorporate the standard NP design at all? Just curious.

boat choice

I will go for number two. I like black and it look much better than the first choice. This is my opinion and I hope that nobody will take out his gun and prove me wrong. Just kidding...

Sketch design

No question, hands down, sketch #1. Of course I must identify myself as a life time sailor aka (rag bagger). The beautiful sheer and angeled bow makes for a more aesthetic image. The more plumb the bow, the more utilitarian the tug looks. If I had the funds, my deposit would be forth coming. I can't wait to see the first hull in Seattle!

Although #2 looks more

Although #2 looks more "shippy", it looks rather bulky and heavy. It would help to see both images with the same hull color. Would design #2 have a bow sprint for the anchor, or a flush anchor? Based on what I can see presented, I think my preference is design #1

reply

This article was a brilliant read. I love to read about boats and yachts. Thanks!

NP 28

I prefer the sketch number one; but I would like even better if it retained the look of the 39, 43, & 52.

trailerable boat

#2 has a more "salty look" which may help when it gets a bit lumpy. Like the bow and sheer.

#2 looks too contrived. #1

#2 looks too contrived. #1 has natural lines and is the obvious choice. Diesel will again be $6/gal again before we know it and this is a perfect boat to deal with that fact of life.

If you can deliver at your promised price, I will be very impressed.

Thanks for the feedback. We

Thanks for the feedback. We ended up going with the #1 design. The first 28 will arrive late August/early September. We are still on track for the $165,000 base price for the first 8 or 10 units. After those boats the factory will review the costs and make an adjustment if necessary. I would expect a $10,000 or so increase for 2010.
